Every woman, yes even the one who dislikes shoe shopping, knows that the right pair of shoes can make or break an outfit. This is especially true for parties and events. Women must dress to impress as you never know when or where you will run into that old school friend who always had one up on you trend wise. And let’s face it we want other women to envy our style.

There are several factors to keep in mind when selecting a pair of shoes for a party or event. The first thing to consider is the time of day. Is it a daytime or evening party? Daytime parties are often less formal and may not require the same calibre of attire as an evening party does.

Glittery heels are a bit much for the daytime, but a pair of satin pumps would be perfect. Also, lower heels are more appropriate for daytime functions since they won’t wear you out as quickly and they can cope with terrain that is a bit more adventurous. Grass or cobbles are often too much for stiletto wearers to handle, no matter how skilled they are. Opt for a block heel instead of sky high heels, which could look a bit out of place in the daytime. Of course, once the sun goes down your heels can be as sky high, colourful and glittery as you like.

As some of you may well know, the perfect party pump is defined by its ability to flatter a woman’s leg. Sling backs should therefore be avoided when combined with skirts and dresses, as they make even dainty ankles look thick. Ankle strap heels are a much better option, as they define the ankles and have a slimming effect. Another one to avoid is mid-calf length boots. They tend to divide the lower leg at the widest point making even the longest legs appear short and chunky. A fitted knee length or thigh high boot works better, as it will elongate the calf making legs look longer as a result.

Last but certainly not least, is the classic heeled shoe. Itis another great party shoe particularly when you wish to show off a bit. It does wonders for a woman’s physique, especially her legs and derriere, as a tall heel can define the calf muscles and accentuate curves. The improved posture and feeling of being tall and elegant gives you a great confidence boost.

When selecting party shoes, you shouldn’t dismiss comfort over style. Ill-fitting heels will negatively affect your posture and stride, and may even result in injuries such as blisters or twisted ankles, thereby spoiling your fun and even forcing you to leave when the parties at its best.

Pairing bold coloured heels with plain dresses is a great way to make a statement, and shouldn’t be shied away from as you can have so much fun with the colour combinations alone. Try bright red heels with a black dress or leopard print pumps with a red dress.Still bold, but not as strong a statement can be gained by combining dress and shoes of the same colour but different shades. Consider combining a pale blue dress with bright and dark blue heels to gain this effect. If the dress is more detailed, select a plainer shoe, instead. For instance, a glittery or sequined dress would look great with a solid colour velvet or satin shoe.
